you were mean to me but i protected you anyways. fed you like your mother should have. took the pain (claw marks still remain). i hid you from view. gave you time to grow and show, everyone just how powerful you could be. you were too loud but i listened anyways. you told me there was danger. squawked at me for hours and hours on end. no hawk ever came. i let you grow bigger than you should have ever been, turned my back on others to keep them from breaking your neck. you told me you saved me. while picking at my bones from the inside. bleeding me dry. no hawk ever came.

in a dream, last year, my love tied you up in rope and kept you quiet. sometimes you got out. but he’d tie you up again for me. a temporary fix. in a dream, last night, you were bigger than ever before. your squawks deafened me, shrinked me down small. but on waking i heard a whisper, quick and sharp, cutting through the silence before your squawking started.
