I can hear the ocean

inside my ears. and i am not listening.

i am drowning

out the sounds of the shore

with the sound of artifical wind

or

the sound of summer rain through a speaker

or

the sound of a clothes dryer on loop.

and i am trying not to listen

to anything going on inside

even when it’s the gentle

crashing of waves, spraying

droplets into the wind.
