me in the Sahara

we drove our van

to the Sahara desert
and walked out into the dunes
dug my hands into the earth and felt
the burning
of the earth, the softness
how the ridges feel so solid and then –
give way
how the curves carried me
lead us deeper into the forest of sand
and covered us
in its earth.
wind blowing golden dust into our eyes,
nose, mouth, we became
fragments
of desert
& carried it with us
our van a burnt shade
of orange, our bedsheets
littered with sand, rubbing at our legs
calling us back
to slip beneath a dune
and sand bathe
forever
